Dom Designs created a really great tutorial on how to go from sketch to digital illustration using Adobe Illustrator. If you are just starting out and trying to figure out how to draw digitally in Illustrator from a sketch this is a great tutorial. He might be moving a little fast for someone brand new, but you can stop, pause a rewind. He does a great job with the shadows and highlights as well.
