You will create a logo for a fictional beverage company. You will be provided a design brief from another student, who will act as the client. You will adhere to that students specifications to design a logo for their beverage company. You can reach out to your client do get more information if you need it. You can also ask for or suggest changes. (Name Change, Colors Change, etc)
What is a logo?
Using simple shapes, type, fill colors and stroke colors create a logo for the Client’s Drink Brand.
You are defining a brand for another student to work on. Basically think of yourself as the client and you are hiring another student to design a logo for you. Provide them with as much detail as possible to allow for a good result that is close to your vision for the company.
- Your name (client)
- Define a your beverage type
- Ex: Tea, coffee, Soda, Energy Drink etc.
- Name of your beverage brand (You make up a name)
- Ex: Sparkle, John’s Coffee. Super Sport, Shazam, The Gentle Tea Leaf, etc.
- What are 3 colors might like for this logo?
- Do not include Black or White as colors. These are a given.
- Define your audience – What is the audience you are targeting
- Age – Ex: School age, Kids Young Adults, Actual Age Range, etc
- Demographic – Ex: Americans, Professionals, Active People, Family’s, People who need nourishment, etc.
- Culture – Young Tech Culture, Ethnic Culture, Athletes, etc.
- What do you like best about this beverage?
- Other info
- This is extra info that could be helpful or help define the brand.
Create 10 Sketches of possible logos for your brand. These are done by hand with pen/pencil and paper.
- You will photograph your sketches and put them in a folder and zip that folder.
- You will sketch out your whole logo (the Mark and the words)
- These will be fully formed ideas, so we can see what you have in mind for this project.
- You will save you sketches as jpgs

In Adobe Illustrator, you will create 4 different logos that might be used as your final logo. Make each logo no bigger than 2″ x 2″ on the page. The logos should be arranged 2 by 2 on an 8.5×11 sheet of paper. Make sure you take into account your target audience as defined in Part 1.
You will only turn in 4 versions for this draft, but you should probably create at least 10+ different ideas and choose your 4 best ideas.
Do not turn in more than 4 ideas. This will require you to self-select your best ideas.
- Use Illustrator to create simple shapes to develop a basic two-dimensional logo.
- Communicate graphic design concepts.

Planning specifications (required elements)
- Size: Letter size 8.5 x 11/ Portrait mode
- Art Boards: 3 Art Boards
- Format: White background
- Color: CMYK, Up to 3 colors max. Not including Black and White
- You must include the name of the beverage in your logo
- Words can be re-spelled so long they are pronounced the same
- Art Board 1: This is where your design goes the text should be live and editable
- Art Board 2: Duplicate your artwork and outline the text.
- Art Board 3: This will contain your design statement
Design Statement
- Create a brief written statement about your work. This is what you will talk about in class. In Your statement explain:
- What the name of the company is
- What kind of drink it is
- Who the target audience is
- What your concept is
- How well you designed your logo for the concept
- Do you think the logo represents the brand well
- Create this in a paragraph on Art Board 3
Presentation and Discussion
- Read or talk about your written statement
- What type of shapes/tools did you use?
- What is the rational for using the graphics for the logo?
You are going to create 4 more versions of you logo based on the feedback you got in the critique. You can choose 1 or 2 logos from your Draft 1 to create your 4 new versions of the logo.
Create a mock-up of your logo on packaging.
